General Questions

Where are the public restrooms?

We maintain portable public restrooms located adjacent to the park by River Street Gardens, at the end of the 4th St extension, south of the Trapeze School. They are cleaned on Mondays and Thursdays, and are available for public use.

Is the park handicapped accessible?

Yes, there are ramps and sidewalks that provide wheelchair access to all areas of the park and boardwalk.

Is alcohol allowed in the park?

Alcohol can only be brought into the park by the general public on Friday evenings that feature our Friday Night Concerts, thanks to a Mayoral order allowing an exception. At all other times, alcohol is prohibited in the park in accordance with DC public park regulations.

Are there water/drinking fountains in the park?

Not at this time.

May my dog come along to enjoy the park?

Yes, but dogs must be on a leash in the park.  There is a dog park on the west side of the Yards Park, past the Great Lawn, where your dog can play off the leash. Dogs are not allowed in any of the water features.

Is smoking allowed?

No smoking in the park.

Can we grill in the park?

No grilling or open flames in the park.  Please bring a picnic instead.

Can we fish from the boardwalk?

No fishing is allowed.

Can our children play with chalk?

No coloring with chalk is allowed in The Yards Park.

Is WiFi available in the park?

Not yet but there are plans to make it available soon.

What do I do if I lose something at the park?

All lost and found items are kept at the Capitol Riverfront BID office. Contact Lyndsey Gore at Lyndsey@capitolriverfront.org with any inquiries. 

When does the park open and close?

The park opens at sunrise and closes 2 hours after sunset.

When is the Navy Yard segment of the Riverwalk open?

From sunrise to 2 hours after sunset daily, though it is sometimes closed for Navy Yard events that require security. You can check status of the Riverwalk on its twitter feed: @WNYRiverwalk.


Water Features

Can kids play in the fountains and canal basin?

Yes – The canal is 11 inches deep. No cloth diapers - only swim diapers allowed. No dogs allowed. There is no lifeguard on duty so use at your own risk. Please follow all rules posted - click here for a list of the rules and regulations. 

Where does the water come from that is in the canal basin and fountains?

The water is DC city water and is chlorinated through the fountain pump system. The chlorine and pH levels are monitored daily. It is NOT water from the Anacostia River.

How do I know if the fountains will be running?

Please check the homepage of the Yards Park website or the Yards Park Facebook page for status update on fountains. Regularly scheduled maintenance is on Tuesdays from 9-11:30 am. 



Can I rent out the park for an event (festival, corporate picnic, wedding, etc.)?

Who puts on the Friday Night Concerts?

The Capitol Riverfront Business Improvement District (www.capitolriverfront.org) hosts the Friday Night Concerts during the summer from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm. The BID also programs, manages, and maintains the Yards Park.

Can we bring blankets and chairs to the Friday evening concerts?

Yes! There are also portable tables and chairs in the park for public use, as well as benches.

How can my band play in the concert series next year?

Email events@capitolriverfront.org. We have already made selections for the 2015 series, but you can contact us in the fall to submit your band's information to be considered.

How do I learn more about the Yards Park events?

What is the rain policy for the concerts?

If the Friday Night Concert is canceled, the news will be posted by 3 pm on the Yards Park's facebook page and twitter feed (@YardsPark).



Where is the nearest Metro station?

The Navy Yard station on the Green Line is the closest Metro station at New Jersey and M Streets, SE, just 2 blocks away.

Where can I park my Capital Bikeshare bike?

There’s a docking station at the corner of M St and New Jersey Ave, SE –  2 blocks away from Yards Park. There is also a station at First St SE and N St SE next to the ballpark and Tingey Street and 3rd Street SE behind the US DOT building.

Are there bike racks in the park if I bike there?

Yes, bike racks are located along Water St, SE and are available to the public.

Where can I park if I drive to the Yards Park?

There is pay-to-park surface parking lots on 3rd St, SE between Water and Tingey and on N Street between New Jersey and 1st Street, SE. There is also public, metered street parking along Tingey St, SE and New Jersey Ave, SE, as well as sections of 4th St, SE, north of M St.   If possible, it is recommended that you arrive by Metro, Circulator, WMATA bus, bicycle or by walking. Where can I pick up the Circulator bus?

There’s a stop at 4th St, SE and M St, SE as well as M St, SE and at New Jersey Ave, SE and M St (by Navy Yard Metro entrance).

Can I bring my boat and dock it adjacent to the park?

Not yet, but there will be a marina in a few years.  You can dock your canoe or kayak at Diamond Teague Park public piers, located to the west of the Yards Park via the Riverwalk Trail. We are working to allow motorized boats to be able to dock at Diamond Teague Park in the near future.



What will happen in the retail bays along the boardwalk?

The bays are for retail and  are available for seasonal lease for quick serve food – sandwiches, ice cream, beverages, etc.  The bays are leased by Forest City Washington.  To inquire about leasing the boardwalk retail bays email Marcie Connolly at Connolly@dcyards.com.

What will be constructed in the lumber shed?

The ground floor will be 4 or 5 restaurants and the second floor will be offices for the developer Forest City Washington.  The lumber shed will all be enclosed in glass. Osteria Morini, Italian restaurant from NYC and created by Chef Michael White, will be located in the lumber shed.  Construction began June 20, 2012 and take will 12-14 months to complete.  It is no longer available for event rentals.

What is the Foundry Lofts timeline and how do I get more information?

The Foundry Lofts opened in November of 2011.  For more information visit www.foundryloftsdc.com.

Are there restaurants where I can have a meal close to the park?

Yes, the Lumber Shed Building on Water Street is home to two of the newest restaurants in our neighborhood, Agua 301 and Osteria Morini. Ice Cream Jubilee will open in April. In addition, the two grassy areas east of the Lumber shed will also be developed as restaurant and retail pavilions. 

The Foundry Lofts apartment building is currently home to Potbelly Sandwich Shop and Kruba Thai and Sushi. 

The Boilermaker Shops features a variety of restaurants including Bluejacket Brewery, Buzz Bakery and Nando's Peri Peri.  100 Montaditos and Willie's Brew and Que will open soon. To find out more visit www.dcyards.com/entertainment/retail

What will be developed on the parking lots surrounding Yards Park?
